Sediment Problem and its Countermeasures of Water Control Project
Sediment is a considerable problem when building water control projects on sediment-laden rivers. Whether the sediment is dealing with properly in sediment-laden river is directly related to the success or failure of the project. Sediment impacts on a water control project mainly show in these aspects: the influence of sediment force on dam, reservoir sedimentation, silting intake and diversion gates and tail water of power station, trash rack crushing, discharge constructions and hydraulic turbine abrasion and disturbing navigation. Aiming at above impacts, according to the research and experiences of sediment problems of water control projects all over the world, countermeasures on the stage of project planning, design, operation and management are systematically proposed, including choosing right dam location, enough discharge capacity, reasonable project layout, optimizing project structure and equipment design, and improving project operation management and so on. It has instructive significance to solve sediment problems of water control projects.
