The Online System for Measuring Sediment Concentration in Xiaolangdi Reservoir

The detection of sediment content in the Xiaolangdi Reservoir is the key parameter to water and sediment management. According to the requirement of the Xiaolangdi Reservoir, the online sediment concentration measuring system is designed. This paper particularly introduces principle of the capacitive differential pressure sensor, PLC hardware design and monitoring software design. The system can detect not only sediment, but also the depth of the measuring point, the water temperature and gradient to enhance detection. This system uses electromotor to drag sensors and the sediment content can be measured at different depths. Through data integration and analysis by software, the spatial and temporal distribution of sediment content can be shown in the visual display monitor interface. During the design process, a large number of calibration experiments were carried out. The purpose of experiment is to find the laws and traditions through a large amount of data. The experiment uses the bottles to calibrate in order to improve measurement accuracy and stability. The system can overcome the effects of different environments and work steadily. So it has reached the design requirement. As compared to similar products, this system is more suitable for the detect sediment concentration in the Xiaolangdi reservoir area.
