Discussion on Bottom-tearing Scouring Phenomenon and Countermeasures in the Yellow River
The flood with hyper-sediment in the midstreaM Yellow River often causes the bottom-tearing scouring. The phenomenon easily causes main channel migration, the rapid decline in the water level; river training works collapses, which affects industrial and agricultural production, and brings tremendous pressure of flood defense. Based on the analysis of the bottom-tearing scoring, we think that layered structure of the river sedimentation caused by the different thickness sediment from different upstream is the prerequisite for the phenomenon; the water and sediment conditions from upper reaches are the dynamic conditions. Based on a large number of field investigations and test, we conclude that the phenomenon of bottom tearing scouring is a very complex and dynamic process. The process usually is comprised by the process of clay block forming, the gradually process of scouring under the bottom of clay block, the process of instability and rearing up of clay block, the process of exposed up the water surface. The eddy that produced by flow is the key of the problem. In the middle reaches of the Yellow River strengthening river training, water and sediment regulation, soil and water conservation work, and can be effective in improving boundary conditions, reduces the occurrence of bottom-tearing scouring phenomenon.
