Application Study of Jet Technology on Sediment Transport and Density Current Creation in the Reservoir

It s an urgent and important subject of reservoirs construction and administration to investigate sediment transport technology in deep water. A great deal of practices of reservoirs sediment transport showed that its a easy and effective method to transport sediment by using density current, and it could increase water sediment content and improve sediment transport capability of water flow taking advantage of jet technology. Therefore, the idea of creation of artificial density current using pulsed jet to transport sediment is suggested. In silty reservoirs, from the front of the dam, use pulsed jet to impinge sediment bed, and suspend sand to forM turbid, which will form corresponding hole on sediment bed at the same time. This process goes on from downstream to upper stream continually, the holes on sediment bed extend channel to upperstream. At the same time, the produced turbid runs award along the channel, that creates density current. The boundary condition, sediment condition and power condition of creation of artificial density current using pulsed jet to transport sediment are discussed primarily.
