Ezperimental Study on Sediment Trapping and Scouring Effect of Low Water Head Overflow Barrage Pivot
Aiming at the development and management of the Yellow River, Ministry of Water Resources of China put forward the governance objectives of no burst of the dike, no zero flow occurred in the river channel no pollution exceed standards of the river, and no rising of the river bed in the main channel. After the completion of the Xiaolangdi reservoir, many scientific practices like water and sediment regulation have been adopted in the Yellow River. These measures played an important role to achieve the governance objectives. In order to reduce deposition of the lower river channel carried by small flow with high sediment concentration from Xiaolangdi reservoir, it is considered to build up rubber barrage to trap sediment carried by small flow from the reservoir and then scour the sediment into the sea by large discharge in flood season. The effects of sediment trapping and scouring in two different conditions of reservoir sediment discharging have been studied in this paper by using physical model experiments. The results show that the pivot sediment trapping ratio is about 17%~47%, and 60%~70% of the trapped sediment can be scoured into downstream of the structure under conditions which are propitious to the scouring.
