Case Study for Field Ditch Improvement with Farmers Participation in Egypt
The aim of this report is to support executers when approaching marwa improvement by introducing them to the socio-economic aspects, such as ownership, relatedness and role of women that need to be taken into consideration. These aspects are to affect any activities on the marwa level, either positively or negatively. Therefore, implementers have to be aware of them and be able to deal with their different implications. Involving farmers at the grassroots level (marwa level) could also be seen as a step towards strengthening farmers participation in WUAs decision making process in particular and decisions affecting their own affairs in general. As a result of the relatively similar socio-economic conditions and interests among the members of a marwa committee ( grouping), it could play a central role in coaching farmers on participation.
