Research on Calcium hardness Removal using the fluidized bed reactor with the carrier induction crystallization

An innovative process for removing calcium hardness from municipal wastewater has been developed. The new technology was based on inducing the nucleated precipitation of CaCO3 on the quartz sand surface in a fluidized bed reactor. The results showed that the highest removal rate of calcium was achieved under the following conditions: water inflow was 60L/h, height of fixed bed was 0.5m, pH value was about 9.6, diameter of vector particle was 0.2~0.4mm, and quantity of reflux was 30L/h. The calciuM concentration in effluent can be decreased to 60mg CaCO3/L, removal rate can reach 86.6%. It means water quality index of circulating cooling water was reached on calcium hardness index.. Compared the coverage of CaCCvquartz sand and just the quartz sand, the formers crystallization rate of CaCO3 is greater than the latter.
