Orthogonal test design for optimization of sulfhydryl cotton fiber adsorption-toluene eztraction of alkyl-mercury compounds in aqueous samples and subsequent determination using capillary GC
An orthogonal Li6 (4)5 test design was applied to select the optimum parameters including sulfhydryl cotton fibre (SCF) adsorbent amount, eluent volume, elution time and extractant volume for the determination of alkylmercury compounds in aqueous samples. Water from Shicha Lake located in Beijing was used to verify the method under the optimized conditions followed by capillary gas chromatography (GC) determination. For methyl-mercury (ethyl-mercury), the recovery was 80.45-93.02% (87.68-104.35%) and the relative standard deviation 2.79-5.62% (4.72-7.24%), respectively.
