Bench scale study on ammonia removal performance of wastewater treatment by zeolite
To carry out city sewage to handle efficiently and wastewater reuse reasonably, a new media (zeolite)was designed and used to treat wastewater by zeolite media biological aerated filter. The results of both batch and breakthrough experiments showed that the difference of ammonium adsorption capacity between biofilm covered zeolite and virgin zeolite was not obvious. It also indicated the biofilm which attached on the surface of zeolite only modified the surface feature of zeolite, while ion-exchange and diffusion procedure were not affected. As a kind of new biochemical technology to remove ammonia-nitrogen from wastewater treatment by zeolite, further studies on the biological regeneration of zeolite will promote the development of the ammonium removal technique.
