The characteristic research of ammonium removal in Zeolite Biological Aerated Filter (ZBAF)

Through the comparative studies on ammonium removal in zeolite and haydite biological aerated filter, the characteristic of ammonium removal in zeolite biological aerated filter are disscussed in the paper. Its mechanics of ammonium removal in zeolite biological aerated filte are reviewed and investigated. The results showed that natural startup in zeolite biological aerated filter were different from haydite biological aerated filter evidently. Because the zeolite has good ion exchange capacity to ammonia in wastewater, while the exchange capacity of haydite to ammonia is approximate zero. The principle of ammonium removal in zeolite biological aerated filter is that zeolite give full play about ion exchange, nitrification and biological regeneration as ion exchangers and as denitrifying bacteria biofilm carrier. And it has better cushioning effect to the high ammonia load, and then removed effectively ammonia in wastewater.
