Detection of Geosmin and 2-Methylisoborneol by LLME-GCMS in Drinking Water
Sample preparation method-LLME(liquid-liquid microextraction) were introduced to extract geosmin and 2-Methylisoborneol from drinking water with 1ml of hexane was adopted in liquid-liquid microextraction (LLME), the extracts were analyzed by GC/MS in selected ions mode. For LLME method, Mean recoveries were satisfying of above 50% for 2-MIB and 80% for GSM. The detection limits of LLME method were as low as 1ng/L for GSM and 5ng/L for 2-MIB. Oneyear-long investigation on odor contamination in source water and drinking water of a city in China demonstrated that in summer, there was serious odor problem induced by high concentration of 2-MIB, the highest concentration of 152.82ng/L appeared in July in source water, while GSM flocculated little with concentrations below odor threshold.
