Research of Irrigation Control and ET in Tianjin

In order to get the principle of water consumption for each crop in Tianjin and analyze the potential of reducing water consumption of this research area, we apply the SWAT(Soil and Water Assessment Tool) model to simulate the ET (evapotranspiration) and irrigation of different crops under different Water Stress Factor(WSF) scenarios. On the on hand, with the irrigation times increasing, the irrigated water amount and ET amount increased accordingly, while the irrigated water using efficiency decreased evidently. On the other hand, reducing the planting area of crops with great water requirement will save water distinctively. With these calculation and analysis, we conclude that under the bottom line of enough food production and not jeopardizing farmers income, we can reduce about 1.47*108m3 of water consumption from agriculture based on the water use scenario of 2004. Meanwhile, as a sophisticated distributed hydrological model, SWAT is also capable to help regional water resources management and ET control.
