The discussions between structure curvature and coalbed methane production parameters of Zaoyuan block of Qinshui Basin
Factors controlling coalbed methane production are gas content and permeability, which are affected by tectonic stress field and open degree of fractures. In this paper, we calculated structural curvatures of contour of the No. 3 coal seam floor of Shanxi Formation in Zaoyuan block of Qinshui Basin, and analyzed its relations with the development parameters of coalbed methane wells. The results have shown, structural curvature are negatively related to coal reservoir pressure, while positively related to permeabilityt and with the increase of structural curvature, the average production of coalbed methane wells increases first and then decreases, reaching the highest production at 0.02 of structural curvature. Therefore, structure curvature can be an import index for potential evaluation of coalbed methane development, and can also provide a basis for siting coalbed methane well.
