Study on model of drainage induces permeability change and reservoir modeling in coalbed methane vertical well
A model describing drainage induces permeability change in coalbed methane (CBM) vertical well was established based on laboratory stress-strain tests of six coal samples from Qinshui Basin. Reservoir modeling software was programmed by including black oil model and the drainage induces permeability change model. By using this software, reservoir modeling studies were conducted to a CBM vertical well locating in the south of Qinshui Basin. Model study indicates that during CBM drainage, permeability will change to some extent. The change rate of coal reservoir permeability drops from positive to minus value with the percentage of-0.45%-0.39% while reservoir pressure and coal rank become higher. Modeling results indicate that the maximum change of CBM production emerges while CBM production reaches its peak value and becomes stable in stable production stage. Generally speaking, the effect of drainage induces permeability change on CBM vertical well production is relatively small. The maximum change rate is only about 0.2%. This means that to reduce the effect of drainage induces permeability change is not the effective way of CBM well production enhancement.
