ADB Assistance in ICT for Development in Asia
The information and communication technology (ICT) is a critical infrastructure in this connected world and an important source of rapidly growing business sector particularly for knowledge-intensive activities. Likewise it is an important generic technology that has broad impacts on socioe-conomic development in knowledge age. It has driven economic and social changes and contributed to the increase of wealth and productivity. The history shows that only those countries enabled to adapt and harness key generic technologies become successful in development. This means that to be competitive in knowledge age all countries need to be prepared to capitalize on the opportunities that ICT has brought.
