Sharing and Disseminating Information Through Secured Institutional Digital Repository-A Review
Information sharing, dissemination, digital libraries, and repositories are not a new technology in fact, in some areas or disciplines repositories have been providing free access to users for many years. Open Access Initiatives make the digital information or resources more accessible to the larger end users. Today, the content providers also spending a huge amount for secured use of information sources, digital contents and services. Access management is an important issue which illustrates the process of providing controlled, secure access to online resources. It involves both authentication-the process of determining the validity of a user who claims to be, and authorization-the process of determining what resources a user is permitted to access. Online security is significant as an important as well as one of the key services for the network infrastructure of digital repository activities for a wide range of audiences. Like the digital collection of digital repository, it also requires that the content be accessed and distributed as widely as possible to valid users around the globe. Access management and control is one of the major concerns for digital content authority over the Internet. Confidentiality and integrity of information cannot be ensured without a proper access management mechanism. Though most of the Institutional Repositories or Open Access Repositories are satisfied with the current mechanisms of the Open Source Software by which they build the repositories but in case of restricted repositories or digital libraries it demand more security and authenticity. In this paper the review of issues on access management for digital repositories is discussed which include mainly user authentications, user authorization, authentication and the technology of secured digital communication of digital materials to share as well as disseminate information.
