Agriculture in Bangladesh: Key Sector for Survival

People, Land and Water-all debate about development in Bangladesh returns sooner or later to these three issues, says a UN report published (in 1986) from its Dhaka office, adding that they are the countrys richest assets and at the same time, its most intractable problems also. Bangladesh is a land of mosaic of green fields striped by stretches of silvery waters. With an area of 147,570 sq. kilometers accommodating a population of about 150 million, Bangladesh ranks among the smallest in surface area, eight in population size and one of the highest in population density. The average per capita income was at 130 US dollars only some two decades back which stands at 430 US dollars, according to a recently published statement of the Planning Commission of Bangladesh:It has manifold problems and at the same time, infinite potentials as well.
