Proposed Solution on e-Banking for Riral Remittance in Bangladesh

The objective of this paper is to give an overview of the current practice of rural remittance in Bangladesh and propose an ICT-based up-to-date remittance system. Based on the experience of other neighboring countries regarding the implementation of real time gross settlement systems for faster state of art payment system, the integral modernization strategy of the countrys payment system is described. This research includes a modernization matrix of the envisioned system, activities to be carried out, strengthening of the normative frame of the payment system to the implementation and modernization of the payment system and to the institutional cooperation. Value addition through proposed e-Remittance System includes creating unified payment platform for the country, standardizing payment processing conventions, transferring funds to and from any location within hours, reaching remittances to beneficiaries at any location of the country, enabling easy fund transfer from urban to rural areas, reducing paperwork, simplify follow up process, attract more and more people to legal channels and reducing costs for all. The technological design and plan for software, hardware, network, training, management and monitoring are proposed. Further study can be conducted based on empirical result of a pilot testing of this proposed solution.
