Risk Assessment of Pregnant Women Through Mobile Technology

This paper presents the findings of a proof-ofconcept experiment run by D. Net in collaboration with Click-Diagnostics. Info-lady is a popular concept introduced by D. Net, which is about an entrepreneur woman, who provides ICT-based services at the door step of villagers u-sing modern ICTs like cell phone, small laptop computer with Internet connectivity, and a digital camera. This is a new livelihood opportunity for educated rural women for providing a bunch of services to rural population, particularly women. The experiment is about whether the info-lady can be trained and collect medical information from pregnant women living in rural areas for assessing risk and extending medical support and save lives. If they can do the task with high degree of accuracy, a full-scale operation may facilitate achieving millennium development goal 5 on reduction of maternal mortality. This would also help achieving target of the current government to reduce maternal death from 0.38% to 0.25%. The experiment was successful and the level of accuracy of data collection was 98. 7%.
