Challenge to Incorporate PKI in the e-Governance Framework for University Administration

Public Key Infrastructure ensures proper security model for electronic transactions and help overcoming the lack of trust in e-Governance within the university domain. Universities are one of the oldest established institutions of human civilization. With emergence of technology and growing demand of the society, developed nations started adopting eGovernance to better serve their citizens by means of efficient and effective services, with accountability and transparency. The e-Governance has become a key issue for the government and other corporate organizations. When appropriately applied, eGovernance can play the role of a central nervous system effectively ensuring the well being of the organization. Being oldest centre of excellence for intellectual activities, Universities can also leverage the benefit of e-Governance. The underlying goals for adopting e-Governance practices with PKI infrastructure are to ensure improved quality in disseminating education and administration, conforming to regulations as per the university statues and acts. In this paper, the authors identified key challenges to incorporating PKI in the proposed conceptual framework for e-Governance initiative by Universities.
