The Structure Analysis and Lightweight Optimization of Twist Beam Rear Azle
In this paper an optimization process for PASSAt twist beam rear axle is introduced. First a Finite Element model of the rear axle is established. Three parameters: Safety coefficient, static torsion stiffness and the first order natural frequency are taken as the criteria for the evaluation of lightweight structure performance. Then, three materials are separately used to optimize the weight of rear axle analyzed in three different kinds of structure. Finally, an optimal design of the rear axle is proposed through an overall analysis considering the performance criteria, manufacture proceeding, costs and the lightweight result. This optimization process can be applied to most lightweight cases which focus on dynamic parts in automobile industry.
