Fabrication of a Glucose Biosensor by Co-immobilizing Palladium Nanoparticles and Glucose Ozidase onto Pd Electrode

Since Clark and Lyons proposed in 1962 the initial concept of glucose enzyme electrodes 1, impressive advances in the design and use of glucose biosensors has been achieved in our research group 2-5. Among those electrochemical biosensors, nanomaterials including carbon nanofiber 6, gold nanoparticles 7, 8 and semiconductor quantum dots 9-11 prove to be useful enzyme-immobilized platforms for fabricating highly sensitive glucose biosensors because of their potential use in diagnostic analysis of diabetes 12. In this presentation, we report a highly sensitive electrochemical glucose sensor based on an immobilized palladium nanoparticles-glucose oxidase (PdNPs-GOx) monolayer film deposited on a Pd elelctrode. The proposed biosensor possesses the advantages of fast response (<10 s) and low limit of detection (7.6 μM), and can be applied to determine glucose in various matrices such as blood, urine, and beverages.
