Nanoelectrode Ensembles as Detection Platforms for Electroanalysis
Nanoelectrode ensembles (NEEs) are prepared by electroless or electrochemical plating of metal electrode elements within the pores of a microporous polycarbonate or alumina template membrane 1. The diameter and length of the pores in the template determines the geometrical characteristics of the metal nanostructure. The deposition in templating membrane typically produces metal nanofibers with very high aspect ratio, which is radius as small as 10 nm and length as high as 6-10 μm, which can be used as ensembles of nanoelectrodes for specialized chemical sensing purposes. In this communication we focus on the preparation, characterization, chemical sensing and electroanalytical application of NEEs where the metal elements are gold nanoelements with 30 nm diameter, with densities of 6×108 elements cm-2.These gold NEEs are prepared by electroless deposition, using commercially available track-etch polycarbonate membranes as the template.
