3D Electrical Resistivity Tomography Inversion using Conjugate Gradient Algorithm
Because 3D inversion problem is nonlinear, illconditioned and time-consuming, it is a critical work in electrical resistivity tomography (ERT)prospecting. To reduce the computation memory spacing and calculation time. Preconditioned Conjugate Gradient (PCG) method is used to minimize the nonlinear objective function in resistivity inversion. An objective function with prior information is obtained by linearizing and regularizing the inversion problem. As one efficient method to solve optimization problem. Conjugate Gradient method is introduced to solve the minimum of the objective function which is an optimization problem essentially. The diagonal block matrix in Jacobian Iteration is used as preconditioned matrix, the inversion of which is convenient to solve and doesnt occupy memory spacing. Therefore, the computation speed of inversion is greatly improved with PCG algorithm. One numerical experiment demonstrates that the optimization problem for ERt inversion is well and rapidly solved through PCg method.
