Teztile materials in personal protection equipment for the police and military personnel
Textile materials and structures used for head and body protection are discussed, and some new methods for future PPE development are put forward. On ballistic materials, the comparison on textile construction was carried out. It shows that the squareness of the fabrics is an important parameter affecting the ballistic performance. On the other hand, it was found that the gripping of yarns in a ballistic fabric is also vital as it affects how high velocity projectiles would penetrate the fabric assembly. Advices were provided as how ballistic fabrics should be engineered for improved ballistic property. This paper also touches on the engineering design of helmets for the police and military and limb protectors, providing in-sight knowledge for developing helmets and limb protectors with better protection.
