Digital image measurement and analysis of fibre paths within yarns
A manually controlled image measurement technique is developed to obtain the spatial positions of fiber paths within the yam. The sorting of data obtained provides a clear picture of the nature of fiber migration. It is found that incomplete migration is predominant. The 3D paths of tracer fibers within the yam confirm the helical nature of fiber migration. The variation or distribution of fiber angles provides evidence that yam twist determines migration period of fiber within the yarns.
