Comparison of the morphological structure and thermal properties of basalt fiber and glass fiber
The morphological structure and thermal properties of continuous basalt fiber and glass fiber, were analysed and compared using CH-2 projection microscope, SEM, FTIR and TG. The jointly analysis of projection microscopy, SEM and FTIR spectral show that the surface structure and chemical composition of the two fibers are similar. The basalt fiber, like glass fiber, is also a kind of aluminosil-icate fiber which is composed of many oxides. The thermal analysis shows that two fibers resemble in the thermal behavior. In addition, continuous basalt fiber has a higher thermal stability than glass fiber. Although basalt fiber with good heatinsulating properties can be obtained from abundant and inexpensive natural resources, the practicality and protective properties, when used as thermal protection material for people, still need to be further studied.
