Investigation on the procedure for fabric resisting contamination by volatile organic compounds

Staffs in the factories with VOC aerosols should wear clothing with protective profermances. The process technique fabric resisting contamination by volatile organic compounds (VOC) was resear-hed. Some methods were introduced such as fabricating fabrics with different fibers, reducing the weight per square meter of the fabric, laminating the fabric with PTFe membrane and finishing the fabric with fluorinecontaining agents or silicone for reducing VOC adsorption by the fabric. Fabrics made by above methods were exposed in the full of VOC environment aerosols for 24h. Then the VOCs adhered to the samples were extracted with CS2 and analyzed by gas chromatography. The Test results indicate that fabrics with same weight per square meter but fabricated from different fibers have similar resistance to the contamination by VOCs. However, fabrics with low weight per square meter, or laminated with PTFE membrane, or finished by the fluorine-containing finishing agents or silicone, all improved resistance to the contamination by VOCs.
