The Research and Practices in Altitude Training

Altitude training means that athletes are organized to optimal altitude region according to the purpose and plan in order to engage in specific training. The theoretical basis is to use the double stress of high altitude hypoxia and exercise training, to mobilize the bodys functional potential, resulting in a series of anti-hypoxia physiological responses, which improves exercise performance. Altitude training was started consciously in the world in 1950s, and it is developed rapidly in tens of years. The practice experience and basic theory research were emphasized and improved; meanwhile, the altitude training methods were developed from traditional low-high-low alternant training to Living High-Training Low(Hi-Lo) 、 Living High Training High-Training Low (Hi-Hi-Lo) 、 Living Low-Training High(Lo-Hi). The amount of the altitude training bases is increasing, at the same time, the sport items which are involved in the altitude training are developed including the Olympic Games items, such as swimming, middle-distance race, marathon, race walking, bicycling, rowing, volleyball, basketball, football, pingpang, hockey, Softball, speed skating, skiing, shooting, wrestling, judo, boxing and weight lifting and etc.
