Tracking Innovation Capability with Intellectual Capital
The purpose of this paper is to construct a dynamic multidimensional model for innovation capability with an intellectual capital framework. A reference model for the study of innovation capability using a multidimensional intellectual capital framework is proposed. The tracking of innovation capability index and the innovation growth can be calculated with mathematical representations. The model also provides a dynamic view of the innovation capability longitudinally with a fourth dimension representing the innovation flow over time. The model is then applied in a simple case study of two universities in Hong Kong in the area of video technology research. The case study demonstrated that the model can provide a clear representation of the innovation growth and trend of an organization through a multidimensional model. Management can use the model to both track the innovation performance as well as identify potential area of improvement for innovation management.
