Establishing a National E-Culture Heritage Repository for Malaysia
The demand for digitized cultural content is ever increasing worldwide and the same phenomenon is facing Malaysia. It is observed that cultural heritage institutions in Malaysia are digitizing their collections. However, most of the digitization initiatives were done in isolation with different approaches. As evidenced through many successful collaborative digitization projects around the world, the paper posits that the establishment of a centralized repository for e-cultural heritage resources in Malaysia will enhance global understanding and appreciation of the Malaysian culture and heritage. The paper reports on the current state of digitization of cultural heritage resources in Malaysia, and the findings of a Delphi study conducted to identify experts opinion on the factors to consider in establishing such repository.
