Opening Address by ADB
Dear Representatives, Ladies and Gentlemen, On behalf of the Asian Development Bank, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the Chinese Government for organizing this important international conference, and also for providing the opportunity to make a few opening remarks. First of all, it is a pleasure to be part of a gathering of so many distinguished experts from different organizations and regions to share knowledge and experiences on combating land degradation. Recognizing the increasing pressure on dryland ecosystems worldwide, there is a continuous need to strengthen regional and international cooperation to most effectively address seemingly local environmental concerns that actually have global significance and impacts.
