China Biodiversity Partnership Framework
1.Why do we need CBPF? China is one of the countries with rich biodiversity. Ecosystem and biodiversity in China has contributed significantly to domestic and international economic and sustainable development with great resources and ecosystem service. However, due to over development, unsustainable land management, and climate change, natural resources have been increasingly threatened in China. With rapid development of eco-society, the biodiversity conservation in China will face not only opportunity but also threaten and various challenge, although Chinese government has taken many steps yet to protect biodiversity by establishing legal framework for natural resources protection, establishing Chinese natural reserves system, conducting research on biodiversity and fulfilling The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). Lots of national and international partners are taking action for biodiversity conservation in China. The roles and responsibilities are dispersed, sometimes overlapping and duplicating. The government commitment does not always lead to action in the field. The result has not been satisfied and many gaps, overlapping and duplicating still exist due to insufficient coordination and cooperation. An innovative concept-China Biodiversity Partnership Framework for Action, CBPF, emerged.
