Study on Evaluating Forest-Related S&T Innovation Capacity in Western Areas Stricken by Land Degradation of China

Land degradation has been a crucial ecological concern increasingly threatening human subsistence and well-being. The pressures on ecological environment and the quality crisis of forest resources cause to the urgent need of S&T innovation to provide strong support. The degraded lands in the West China are the ecologically vulnerable areas of China, with rather weak forest-related S&T innovation capacity. In such context, this paper selected 7 greater regions and 28 provinces/regions and undertook evaluation on their capacity respectively by setting up an evaluation indicator system on such capacity. Through comparative analysis, it presented an objective evaluation on the forest-related S&t innovation capacity in degraded lands of West China and proposed corresponding countermeasures and suggestions to improve the capacity there.
