An Introduction of Ningzia Integrated Ecosystem and Agricultural Development Project of Asian Development Bank
This paper introduces the establishment background, general situation and some highlights of the Integrated Ecological and Agricultural Development Project in the eastern Helan Mountains in Ningxia Hui autonomous Region. The project area is located to the east of Helan Mountain and to the west of the Yellow River, occupying 3,655 square kilometers and covering three districts and two counties in Yinchuan City. The area also includes nine state-owned farms of the farming system and a total population of 1.1 million. Its natural environmental conditions are complicated with grassland ecosystem as the major component. Environmental factors are comparatively poor, with a relatively poor natural ecosystem function. The environmental capacity is small with a vulnerable ecosystem structure. The strong interference from humans economic activities has resulted in issues like desertification, soil and water loss, and natural grassland degradation.
