Economic Efficiency of Cost Savings Verified by Means of QFD and FMEA
Cost savings are always a great challenge when it comes to striking an optimum balance between quality and reliability requirements on the one hand and costs on the other, taking due account of the competitive market. If we assume that cost savings are most likely to be achieved by means of more efficient manufacturing processes and design changes, it is fundamental to consult the initial QFd documentation. This paper presents a method to systematically analyze the extent to which technical changes driven by cost savings might have adverse impacts on product characteristics. It is the objective to facilitate a risk analysis of cost savings measures before they are implemented. Preventive actions derived from such a risk analysis will help avoid problems that typically hamper the realization of the desired savings.
