Correlation between Top-Coal Press Cracking and Fracture Occurrence

The law of fractures influence on hard top coals press cracking was studied from the relation between fracture and coal strength, top coal cavability and work face layout. The top-coal caving working face should be perpendicular to or obliquely cross the primary fracture at large angle, and cross the secondary fracture at small angle. Based on the investigation of fracture system, coal mass fracture strike rose diagram of GuShuYuan mine was obtained. According to the fractures strike and density, the longwall mining with top-coal caving face was arranged to improve the top-coal caving ability and prevent the rib spalling.
