Preliminary Failure Process Modeling of Strain-Softening Rocks with Heterogeneity and Stiffness Deterioration
The random variation of strength of elements (or called heterogeneity) base on Weibull distribution is introduced into FLAG Some FISH functions are written to introduce the stiffness deterioration into FLAC, to demonstrate the distributions of the released elastic shear strain energy and tensile strain energy, and to present the evolutions of the elastic shear strain energy release rate and tensile strain energy release rate. Seven examples, including the numerical simulations of shear and splitting cracks in compression, Brazilian disk splitting, bending, outbursts, cyclic loading test, pillar collapse, and excavation in layered rock, are given to model the failure processes of strain-softening rocks, demonstrating the features and advantages of the present models.
