Finite Element Numerical Simulation of Coal Roof Tension Damage in the Gob
Based on the rock tension damage theory, in accordance with the four criterions of rock tension fracture and the principles of tension elements given, the finite element program is made of the inner layer cracking and the interlayer cracking and the fracture evolution process of the coal roof after the coal mining is simulated and the inner layer tension strength and the interlayer tension strength of the coal roof rock layer are given. When the first main tension stress is bigger than the given tension strength, the inner layer or the interlayer cracks. The simulation result shows that the finite element program can simulate the damage evolution process of the roof rock layer in the gob area very well. It can provide the theory basis for studying the nonlinear damage law of the gob area roof and forecasting mining earthquakes.
