A NEW METHOD OF BLEACHING AND COLOR STRIPPING FOR RECYCLED FIBERS
A dual reductive bleaching process (DRB) sequential using sodium borohydride (B) and sodium bisulfite (S)was carried out to bleach deinked ONP. The experiment optimized the charges of two reductive agents and bleaching temperature. The pulp brightness under these optimized bleaching conditions achieved 63.9% ISO, the brightness gain of which was 5.4% ISO higher than the control. Compared with other bleaching methods for ONP-DIP, such as P (hydrogen peroxide), FAS (fomamidine sulfinic acid) and Y (sodiuM hydrosulfite), the bleaching effect of DRB on brightness gain was inferior to that of P, but closed to that of FAS, and superior to that of Y. From the color stripping effect aspect, DRB had been found to be a better color stripper than that of P and is much better than that of Y, but it is also similar to FAS. Finally, the acid treatment with sulfuric acid or acetic acid in DRB bleaching was carried out. They were found to have different effects on brightness gain.
