THE INFLUENCE OF MILD CHEMICAL PRETREATMENT ON THE REUSE PERFORMANCE OF THE RECYCLED FIBER
Recycled fiber is a very important paper material in nowadays papermaking industry. Compared with virgin fiber, recycled fiber has poor swelling capability and bonding power because of an irreversible hornification phenomenon that may be produced in papermaking process and the using process of the paper product. Generally, the fibers hornification has significant influence on the reuse performance for example strength of the recycled fiber, and the strength improvement of the recycled fiber has been becoming an important research issue in fiber recycling. In this paper, the hornification probleM of the recycled fiber was reviewed, and a new modification method that could improve the reuse performance of the recycled fiber was studied. The experiment adopted domestic OCC fiber as main raw material and the fiber material was pretreated with sodium hydroxide (NaOH). The dosage of pretreatment chemicals, the sensible temperature, pretreatment time and pulp consistency of the pretreatment process were all discussed. After pretreatment, the strength properties such as breaking length, ring crush compression strength and burst strength of the handsheet which was produced by recycled fiber had a significant improvement.
