STUDY ON PULPING FOR THE BRANCHES OF TRIPLOID P. TOMENTOSA CARR. AND P. NIGRA ITALIC
The pulping characteristics of the branches of triploid P. tormentors Carr. (hereinafter referred to as triploid PTC)and P Nigra Italic (herein after referred to as PAT), as well as the bleachability of the pulps of the branches, were studied. The chemical compositions of both materials were analyzed. No substantial difference in chemical compositions between the branches was found. Hollocellulose and lignin contents of the branch of triploid P. tomentosa Carr. were slightly higher than those of the branch of P. Nigra Italic. Lignin and extractives of the branches were higher than those of stem woods. NaOH-AQ pulping was carried out at various pulping conditions. The results obtained under the optimuM pulping conditions indicated that the Kappa number and screened pulp yield were about 31.6 and 50.6% for the branch of triploid P. tormentors Carr., and 27.9 and 49.1% for the branch of P. Nigra Italic, respectively. The brightness resulting from the process of CEHP reached 76% ISO for the pulp of the branch of P. Nigra Italic and 83% ISO for the pulp of the branch of triploid P. tormentors Carr.. The bleached pulps can be used to substitute the commercial HBKP in producing offset paper.
