THE IMPROVEMENT OF PEROXIDE BLEACHING OF HIGH YIELD PULP FROM MASSON PINE
The improvement of peroxide bleaching was studied and the masson pine thermomechanical pulp (TMP) and chemithermomechanical pulp (CTMP) were used as the initial pulp. The ways for increasing the final pulp brightness were investigated. The results show that both the washing and the pretreatment before bleaching are beneficial to the final pulp brightness. The brightness of 74.6% ISO can be achieved at 4% peroxide charge for CTMP, which is about 10 points higher than the production target in the paper mill (65% ISO) with the same peroxide charge. Under the same bleaching conditions the pulp with final brightness of 74.1% ISO, better opacity and tensile strength can be obtained by partial replacement of sodium hydroxide with magnesiuM hydroxide. The results also indicate that the final brightness of CTMP can reach 71.7% ISO with 3% peroxide charge, which is still higher than the brightness target in the paper mill with 4% peroxide charge. The brightness reversion can be decreased with the addition of magnesium sulfate or magnesiuM hydroxide.
