ELECTROCHEMICAL DELIGNIFICATION MEDIATED WITH VIOLURIC ACID OF POPLAR KRAFT PULP
The technical parameters of electrochemical delignification mediated with violuric acid (EM) of poplar Kraft pulp was optimized in this paper as well as the delignification of poplar Kraft pulps with different Kappa number. The results showed that the residual lignin of pulp could be effectively removed with a little loss of pulp viscosity by electrolysis of the electrolyte containing small amount of VIO and 0.2mol/L Na2SO4 in the electrolysis cell with ruthenium-titanium electrode as anode and stainless steel as cathode. The optimum process parameters of electrochemically delignification mediated with VIo were as follows: VIO, 1.8mmol/L; voltage, 2.5V; temperature, 50℃; treatment time, 5h; pH, 4.5 and Na2SO4, 0.2mol/L. At the optimum conditions the pulp Kappa number could be reduced from 17.4 to 11.7 and viscosity was decreased from 1144cm3/g to 1059cm3/g. The Kappa number of pulp treated with EME could be reduced to 7.9 with the delignification of 55.2% and viscosity only decreased to 1032 cm3/g. The brightness of EME treated pulp increasd from original 39.2% ISO to 51.2%. This system had good delignification ability for poplar Kraft pulps with different Kappa number.
