EFFECTS OF STRUCTURES OF THE POLYMERIC SURFACTANTS ON THE PROPERTIES OF CATIONC ROSIN EMULSIONS
The polymeric surfactant SYS-1 containing dimethylamino ethyl methacrylate and JYS-1 containing dimethyldiallyl ammonium chloride were synthesized to prepare cationic rosin emulsion SYM-1 and JYM-1, respectively. The effects of the structure differences between SYS-1 and JYS-1 on the sizing efficiency of SYM-1 and JYM-1 were investigated under neutral-alkaline papermaking conditions. The results showed that sizing degrees of SYM-1 were larger than those of JYM-1 at pH 5 and pH 7, but SYM-1 lost its sizing performance in the papermaking systeM containing 10% of CaCO3. The differences in charge densities and molecular structures between JYS-1 and SYS-1 were responsible for the differences in sizing efficiency of JYM-1 and SYM. The use of the complexes of alum and polyvinylamine increased the sizing degrees of JYM-1 in the system.
