FORMATION OF STARCH/PDADMAC COMPLEXES AND THEIRS APPLICATIONS ON THE RECYCLED PULP
The complexes of a tapioca starch with poly (diallyldimetylammonium chlride) (PDADMAC) was prepared. The results showed that the products from cooking tapioca starch and PDADMAC performed like a cationic starch in wet end of papermaking. The products improved greatly the retention of recycled pulps and breaking strength of paper made from the pulps. The molecular weights of the PDADMAc influenced greatly the performance of the products. The analyses of the products by viscometry and FTIr spectra illustrated that formation of complexes between the starch and the PDADMAC during the cooking. The observation on the paper with electronic microscope suggested that complexes acted based on retaining more microfibers on the sheets.
