PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF GRAFT COPOLYMER OF DIMETHYLDIALLYLAMMONIUM CHLORIDE ONTO CHITOSAN
The graft copolymer was synthesized by grafting dimethyldiallylammonium chloride (DMDAAC) onto chitosan with ammonium cerium nitrate as initiator. The effects of reaction temperature, pH and concentration of initiator on product yield were investigated. And the structure of chitosan and its derivates was studied by infrared (IR) spectroscopy. The optimum conditions were as follows: mole ratio of chitosan/DMDAAC=1: 1, concentration of initiator 0.5mmol/L, 90℃, pH=6, reaction time 3 h. Ir confirmed the graft copolymer of dimethyldiallylammonium chloride onto chitosan. The strengthening effect of chitosan grafting copolymer on the physical properties of handsheets made of softwood pulp and hardwood pulp was studied in this paper. The result showed that: because the amidocyanogen of the grafting copolymer can bond the carboxyl on the surface of cellulose and lead to better paper strength, so the strengthen effect of the chitosan graft copolymer was better than that of chitosan itself.
