SYNTHESIS AND APPLICATION OF P-DADMAC-STANDARD CATIONIC POLYELECTROLYTE IN COLLOID TITRATION
Measurement and control of charge in wet end has been emphasized more and more. Colloid titration is an effective method of wet end charge analysis, but in China, chemicals used in this technique depends on import products. P-DADMAC is a standard cationic polyeletrolyte in colloid titration. After the successful preparation for anionic polyeletrolyte (PVSK), we try to synthesize the cationic polyeletrolyte (P-DADMAC) in this work, so we could produce both anionic and cationic polyeletrolyte for colloid titration. This paper focused on the method of synthesis of P-DADMAC, such factors as dosage of initiator, reaction temperature, reaction time and nitrogen feed, and the relationship between molecular weight and charge density, the effect of pH value on charge density were also studied. Charge density of APAM and anionic dispersed rosin size at different ph value were measured with colloid titration using PDADMAC and PVSK. Results of study indicated that the P-DADMAC synthesized in this paper could be applied in colloid titration to measure charge density of some wet end chemicals used, and it was effective in a wide pH range of papermaking wet end.
