SYNTHESIS OF STAR CATIONIC POLYACRYLAMIDE AND ITS APPLICATION IN THE RENTENTION SYSTEM OF RECYCLED PULP
A star-shaped cationic polyacrylamide (S-CPAM) based on AM and DMC was synthesized via free-radical solution polymerization in this paper. The copolymerization of AM and DMC was conducted using PETL as a core molecule and Ce4+ as the initiator. The effect of dosage of initiator and concentration of monomer and molecular ratio of DMC to AM on polymerization was investigated. The structures of the resulting products were characterized by FT-IR, and intrinsic viscosity measurement. The S-CPAMs synthesized with different molecular weights and different cationic charge densities were investigated as retention aids for the retention system of recycled pulp. The results showed that the S-CPAM could provide higher furnish retention, and the effect of shearing and pH value on the retention performance of S-CPAM was weak.
