SYNTHESIS OF COPOLYMERS OF POLYURETHANE-LIGNOCELLULOSIC FIBER AND THEIR APPLICATIONS ON COATING
The synthesis of strengthening agents of polyurethane-lignocellulosic fiber copolymers was investigated in this paper. After the prepolymers of water-borne polyurethane were synthesized, it was blocked with sodium hydrogen sulfite in order to protect the active isocyanates. When the blocked water-borne polyurethane was heated at a certain temperature, it can release the active isocyanates again. The new active isocyanates can react with hydroxyl groups of fiber to form carbaminate bonds so that the copolymers of polyurethane-lignocellulosic fiber were synthesized. The blocking-unblocking mechanisms of water-borne polyurethane were also investigated. The applications of the synthesized products were also studied. The results showed that the physical characteristics of paper coated by blocked water-borne polyurethane were better than those of blank paper except for folding endurance and white degree. At the same time, the physical characteristics of polyurethane coated paper were better than those of normal coated paper, such as tensile strength, tearing strength, bursting strength and folding endurance.
